I'm a typical Third Culture Kid; born in Dubai to America parents, attended International schools in Singapore and Indonesia before my father's transfer to Houston, Texas when I was 15 years old. I stayed in Texas to finish high school and went on to graduate from Texas State University with a degree in Art and a State Certification to teacher K-12 Art in 2003. Immediately after college I married my high school sweetheart, (also an educator), and began my teaching career. I've since taught various combinations of age levels ranging from elementary through high school, 'at-risk' youth through advanced AP and IB students, sponsored gallery shows everywhere from Starbucks to Art Centres and Museums and chaperoned trips through places ranging from the Louisiana Bayou to the deserts of Inner Mongolia; and have lived and taught in New York, Texas, China, Indiana and Thailand; WHAT A LIFE! I feel so lucky for what I've been able to experience so far in my personal life and in my career. To me, teaching and learning is all about embracing the journey and not the destination and this is a philosophy that I focus on both within and beyond my classroom. I believe that if you have been a student in my class, a colleague, or a friend that you would know that I believe that learning, teaching, creating, questioning, risk-taking and making mistakes are all elements that make life worth while. I hope to continue on this bumpy, glorious path for many years to come!
Before taking a break from teaching in January of 2014 to embark on another great adventure, Motherhood, I sent a survey to my students NIST International School who were in years 8, 10, 11, and 12 to get feedback on my teaching practice. Here are all of the results, unedited.

My passion for art started as a student and it's something that has been a major, guiding part of my life ever since. The combination of teaching art and also being an artist myself has always been a mutually beneficial relationship. I'm inspired by the world around me and that includes my students and what we learn and create together in the classroom. My work constantly evolves, is mostly two-dimensional thus far and clearly illustrates my interest in global art styles and in portraiture.
